  • This is a new event everyone is required to set-up a new user account.  You WILL NOT be recognized using your log-in from the Winter 2024 account or any previous academy. 
  • Changes/updates: once your initial registration has been submitted you will need to contact us to make changes!
  • DO NOT use the same email address to register multiple people - you will overwrite the previous registration using the same email. If you are registering multiple people use their email address and add your email address in the additional email field. 
  • There is NOT a group registration feature, registrations are individual due to prerequisites and qualifications collected.

L-952: NIMS All-Hazards Public Information officer

Course Description:

This course is designed for a Public Information Officer (PIO) assigned to an incident as a member of an All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT) and local IMTs, as well as for the PIO assigned to an incident as an Assistant PIO in a variety of capacities.

This course will help participants develop a strong set of core PIO skills and the ability to apply them within the context of an AHIMT. This course is also distinct from other information function courses in that it combines elements from both the basic and advanced functions to concentrate training on the fundamental duties and responsibilities of the PIO in an all-hazards environment. The course material does not assume or require experience as a PIO but also is not a basic PIO course. This course is an instructor-led training that supports learning through discussion, lecture, and active participation in multiple exercises that provides a realistic, scenario-driven approach to mastering the skills required of a PIO. Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable participants to process and apply their new knowledge.

L-969: NIMS All-Hazards Communications Unit Leader

Course Description:

This course helps participants establish the essential core competencies required for performing the duties of the Communications Unit Leader (COML) in an all-hazards incident. This course addresses all responsibilities appropriate to a COML operating in a local-or state-level All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT). These responsibilities include the collection, processing, and dissemination as needed to facilitate Operations of Command, General Staff, and Unit Leaders within the confines of a Type 3 AHIMT. This course is an instructor-led training that supports learning through discussion, lecture, and active participation in multiple exercises that provides a realistic, scenario-driven approach to mastering the skills required of a COML.

L-975: NIMS All- Hazards Finance/ Admin. Unit Leader

Course Description:

The Finance/Administration Unit Leader (FAUL) course will help participants establish the essential core competencies required for performing the duties of the Finance/Administration Unit Leader in an all-hazards incident. The course is designed to enable participants to perform as any of the four FAULs (Time Unit Leader, Procurement Unit Leader, Compensation and Claims Unit Leader, Cost Unit Leader). Participants will learn information that is applicable across all four positions, such as Unit setup and management, information gathering, and interactions.

This course is an instructor-led training that supports learning through discussion, lecture, and active participation in multiple exercises that provides a realistic, scenario-driven approach to mastering the skills required of a FAUL. Complex experiential exercises and discussions will afford participants the opportunity to act as each Unit Leader while connecting all information learned back to real-world application.

Basic Land Navigation for Firefighters

Course Description:

This course is an introduction to Map and Compass use for Wildland Firefighters. It’s recommended for those that either lead others or themselves. Topics covered in the 3-days include topographic maps, compass use, Latitude/longitude, UTM, Township/Range and introduction to apps like Avenza and Field Maps. The third day will be field day to practice the skills you learned.

S-390: Fire Environment Assessment & Fire Behavior Estimation

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce fire behavior calculations by manual methods, using nomograms and the Fireline Handbook Appendix B: Fire Behavior, PMS 410-2. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of fire behavior though studying inputs (weather, slope, fuels, and fuel moisture). Students also learn how to interpret fire behavior outputs, documentation processes, and fire behavior briefing components.
